Transformational Leadership in Healthcare Settings
A DNP leader is someone who has made notable contributions to the advancement of the nursing
practice, influenced healthcare policy and heavily invested in the education of patients. The
leadership styles used by DNP leaders may vary based on preferences, specific roles assigned,
and the cultural context. However, it is important that a DNP leader match their leadership style
to the population they are addressing. It is also beneficial that the leadership style be presented in
a manner that stimulates and motivates the population to engage with the message and act on the
the audience, then engagement and change will not take place. This reflective journal will
identify a population of interest and compare and contrast three motivational or leadership
methods that were noted from my DNP Seminar series or other academic coursework or
professional literature.

Transformational leadership
Leaders using the transformational approach empower their subordinates.
They drive positive change through a compelling vision, inspiration, and a strong call to action (Lo et al., 2018).
Moreover, this leadership style connects with juniors and boosts productivity, morale, engagement, and teamwork (Lo et al., 2018).
Additionally, these leaders promote change by connecting with their subjects emotionally, inspiring them to strive for something greater than themselves.
Nurse leaders who embrace transformational leadership commit to improving the lives of healthcare staff.
They focus on fostering growth, learning, and development (Lo et al., 2018).
In this context, these leaders emphasize the importance of consulting with healthcare staff when making key decisions that directly affect them.
Furthermore, transformational leaders actively lead with influence rather than mere authority.
They promote an ethical team culture and motivate others to take action (Lo et al., 2018).
This approach enhances individual performance and strengthens the overall team dynamic.
Ultimately, transformational leaders create an environment where everyone feels valued and inspired to contribute their best efforts.
Additionally, transformational leaders have a duty to lead with influence rather than mere authority.
They actively promote an ethical team culture while motivating others to take action (Lo et al., 2018).
Consequently, this approach not only enhances individual performance but also strengthens the overall team dynamic.
Ultimately, transformational leaders create an environment where everyone feels valued and inspired to contribute their best efforts. APA
