Obesity is a health condition in which the weight of an individual exceeds what is considered healthy. As of today, the prevalence rate of obesity among middle-aged adults in America aged 40 to 59 was about 44.8 percent (CDC, 2020). Studies show that the greatest cause of obesity among the middle-aged adults is lack of physical exercise (Frankenfeld & Wallace, 2019). Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition affecting the manner in which the body processes glucose. A study conducted in 2015 indicate that adults aged 45 to 64 are the most diagnosed with type to diabetes in America (Xu et al., 2018). The prevalence rate of the condition among the middle-aged today is about 8.5 percent (Nicklett et al., 2020). Lack of physical exercise causes the muscle cells to lose their ability to control the levels of sugar or glucose in the blood.

As a nurse, I would offer health education to clients to help them incorporate physical exercise into their lives. In other words, I would enlighten my clients on the health benefits of physical exercise as well as the negative impacts associated with lack of exercise. Additionally, I would encourage the family members of clients to ensure that they regularly take a walk or jog. The specialists recommend 45 to 60 minutes of moderate-intensity activity in a day (WHO, 2018). This means between 255 and 300 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity in a week. To gain cooperation from clients, I would focus on building healthy relationships, lead by example, and ensure that I issue clear guidelines.
