Paradigms of Clinical Practice Delivery – The Microsystem

Paradigms of multi-professional practice refer to the strategies adopted by healthcare organizations to boost levels of interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork in care delivery. These frameworks also incorporate patients’ needs and are aimed at promoting quality and patient-centered care services (Didier et al., 2020). Examples of these paradigms include the integrative paradigm, the totality paradigm, and the simultaneity paradigm. This paper analyzes these paradigms and applies their concepts to healthcare organizations’ microsystems to determine the best frameworks for promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and care quality.

The Microsystem

The microsystem refers to the immediate environment in which a person or an organization experiences direct interactions and social relationships. Elements in this environment include family and peers (Navarro & Tudge, 2023). Healthcare organizations also have a microsystem that influences day-to-day operations at the facility. This framework is primarily made up of care providers and patients. Arguments by Crawford (2020) reveal sociocultural beliefs and practices have a huge impact on interactions in this system. Similarly, the adopted communication styles and work processes at a healthcare facility could have a huge impact on the levels of care quality and patient satisfaction scores. Adopting a paradigm that fits the organization’s goal could aid in shaping the facility’s macro system in various areas, like interdisciplinary collaboration and patient-centered care.

A Brief Overview of the Integrative, Totality, and Simultaneity Paradigms

The integrative paradigm aims to offer a holistic understanding of all factors influencing care outcomes and ways of meeting patients’ needs. This system holds that health is influenced by a combination of external factors. Adopting a multifaceted approach that combines different perspectives and care delivery methods is the best way of promoting care quality (Younas, 2024). Applying this paradigm is beneficial in allowing care providers to determine the root causes of a patient’s chief complaints and determine the best ways of offering patient-centered care. Additionally, it could also aid in determining the sociocultural influences impacting a patient’s health and ways of…
