Community organization refers to the process through which a community identifies needs, takes the necessary actions, and thereafter develops cooperative and collaborative attitudes and practices as a community. The global public health outbreak presented in lecture four is the severe acute respiratory syndrome disease (SARS). SARA hit the world in 2003 and originated in Hong Kong, China. The global outbreak presented in lecture one is the Dengue fever, which originated from either Africa or Southeast Asia. This paper will discuss how the epidemiology of SARS and Dengue fever outbreaks influence me in understanding of community organization.

The epidemiology of the two global public health outbreaks influence my understanding of this concept by tracing the specific origin of the diseases. From lecture four, I noted that the first SARS patient was Liu Jianlun, who spent a night in the then Metropole Hotel, ninth floor, room number 911. Liu spent the night in the hotel ahead of a family wedding gathering the following day. With such information, it would be easier for community organization to trace carriers of a virus or a disease. This would help prevent many unsuspecting people from being affected.

The epidemiology of the two global outbreaks influences me to understand community organization by helping respond speedily to the outbreak. Looking at the two pandemics, the lectures paint a picture of the route the first patients of the outbreaks took and how they ended up infecting others. Health specialists informed the WHO about the strange diseases, the observed symptoms, and the mode of transmission. Through this a solution was found. The appication of community organization helped save a lot of lives which could have otherwise perished.
