Many female officers report experiencing gender-based discrimination and even sexual harassment. Many women in this profession lack mentorship and support compared to their male counterparts. Additionally, women have limited career advancement opportunities as they are often underrepresented in leadership positions within police departments. Women who are police offices lack work-life balance. They have irregular hours, which can be challenging for women who are primary caregivers.
