Harzads of Technology; Technology is defined as the skills, methods, techniques, and processes that are used
in the production of goods and services or in the accomplishment of objectives. Technology
can be dated back 2 million years ago when man invented stone tools. Technology has since
then had a tremendous impact on four main areas of human life namely communication,
biotechnology, transport, and production. Many people, however, only associated technology
with computers and the internet. This paper argues that technology has people and has not
made the world a better place to live because of health, data security, addiction, employment,
and crime concerns. Read more
Argument
The use of technology has serious health concerns. It increases the risk of mental
health in individual users, causes vision problems, anxiety, hearing loss, and neck strain.
Additionally, private data is no longer safe with the current in this digital world as people's
conversations on social media and movements in public places can be easily monitored
(Chatterjee & Sokol, 2019). Moreover, technology use does not only lead to time and
resources wastage but also leads to addiction (Alghamdi, 2016). Millions of people are
addicted to computer games, social media, pornography, and messaging today courtesy of
technology (Alghamdi, 2016). Similarly, technology increases job security as it has made it
possible for individuals to perform tasks remotely (Nam, 2019). Technology has also been
used as a fertile ground for terrorist activities. Terrorists, drug barons, and hackers today use
technology to perpetrate crime. Harzads of Technology;
Counterargument
Although technology has several negative effects, its benefits are unmatched. In the
health sector, technology has been used to develop medical equipment, diagnose illnesses,
record patient information, and monitor patients remotely (Kaur, 2019). Personal data and
information can be safeguarded by the use of data security control tools such as passwords
(Storm, 2018). Video games and computer addiction have no harmful effects unlike
substance abuse and related addictions. The ability to work remotely through the internet has
people to contribute their skills from all over the world. Whereas it is claimed to promote
terrorism, technology has also been used to conduct positive activities such as organizational
training, carry out campaigns, and attending classes and church services (Rodriguez, 2018).
With all these benefits of technology, it is false to say that technology has not made the world
a better place. Harzads of Technology;
Refutation
Even though technology has positive effects, the impacts of its negative effects are
long-lasting. The health concerns associated with the use of technology such as vision
problems, hearing loss, and mental health are irreversible (Kaur, 2019). Technology has also
eroded the morals and values that brought people together. Social interactions and quality
family time is today a thing of the past as everyone from the parents to children and deeply
sunk in their phones or computers. Looking at the extent to which technology has harmed
humankind, you can agree with me it has not made the world a better place to live.
In conclusion, many of the problems we are facing have been brought about by
technological inventions. It is, therefore, true to say that technology has not made the world a
better place to live. If the use of technology is not regulated, values and morals will never be
regained, addictions will continue being the order of the day, and private data will be another
synonym of public data. As Richard Harris once said”. Though technology has significantly advanced, the government is still using technology the same way it was doing in the past. If
technology is used in the same way as before instead of being more efficient, it becomes very
risky. Harzads of Technology;
