Citations in writing Defined
An abstract is a brief, comprehensive summary of the contents of your paper. The abstract may range from 150 to 250 words. “Tell the reader what you are going to cover in your paper.” You can also consider this like a short outline to the assignment, but in paragraph form.

(Place the heading “Conclusion” in your paper to wrap up your paper. The conclusion follows the body of your paper, you do not need to start a new page.)
This is where you: “Tell the reader what you told them you were going to cover in your Abstract”. Here you wrap up the paper (summarize) by reflecting on the Body or main contents of the paper. Again, you simply look back at the paper and summarize what was discussed.
NOTE: Do not introduce new material here or answer any assignment questions here.
Examples of in-text citations – both direct quotes and paraphrasing
- Subaru currently has five models in its lineup (Subaru, 2004).
- “These theories provide an important foundation for a discussion of how wraparound promotes positive outcomes for children and families” (Walker & Schutte, 2004, p.183).
- According to Venes (2001) three types of influenza are spreading throughout the country.,
- Walter and Schutte (2004) believe that wraparound teamwork is an effective method for supporting families and children.
- In its “Corrections” section (2004), Fortune magazine did name the CEO of Rita-Aid who is currently in prison for Fraud.
- “By consistently trying to strengthen the moral base in a firm, you may give it the intellectual power to handle coming ethical conflicts and to evade the most critical pitfalls” (Mintzberg, Ghoshal, Lampel & Quinn, 2003, p. 299).

NOTE: Unless you are a credentialed expert in the subject questions, you will need to conduct research for your paper. When you do this, you must give the “source” credit for providing the information. If you are an expert, then provide your own credentials as a citation to establish your expertise.
NOTE: “Opinions” are fine, but only if supported by researched information. Do not write a paper based solely on your opinion.
In a 500-word paper, it is suggested to have three in-text citations with the matching reference. The rest should be your critical thoughts.
NOTE – All citations must be listed on the reference sheet, and all references must be cited in the text. You cannot have one, without the other. APA
